Tinga Tinga paintings are the most commonly known tourist art attractions in Tanzania. These forms of art are found all across the country from small shops to large cooperatives.
1. Tinga Tinga Arts Cooperative Society website (www.TingaTingaArt.com)
You'll find handmade Tinga Tinga paintings and related handmade gifts for sale all over Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, but the Tinga Tinga Arts Co-operative Society's online website has the widest range.
As well as more traditional styles featuring the big five, there are also paintings of lively street scenes, and even scenes from the National Hospital, Muhimbili (also available as an animal version with a lion giving birth and a giraffe having an injection!)
You can buy a handmade painting online, which will usually take about five days to be ready. Different prices are available to cater to different budgets.
In comparison with some of the other online markets you are able to browse the entire collection, pay securely online without being hassled to look at everything by overenthusiastic traders.
Visit www.TingaTingaArt.com to see the collection.
One of the largest cities in Tanzania, Arusha hosts a number of small shops and cultural heritage centers that has numerous paintings, many of them in the traditional Tinga tinga style. You can take a cab from the Arusha airport and ask them to take you to cultural heritage sites where you can buy any Tinga tinga painting in a style of your choice.
You'll find many painters around the Serengeti that sell Tinga Tinga paintings, although many of them do not belong to any recognized society.
